Freeze-dryer
Supervisors: Michele Iafisco, Lorenzo Degli Esposti
Freeze-drying is a low temperature dehydration process consisting in freezing the product, lowering pressure then removing ice by sublimation. It allows removing water or organic solvents. It is in contrast to dehydration by most conventional methods that consist in the water evaporation using heat.
The compact freeze-dryer Lio5PDGT is easy to use and is a compact instrument, very useful for powder products. There is not a temperature control in the freeze-drying chamber, hence the process is ruled only by vacuum.
An extra-accessory allows to freeze-dry products separately in time and space, using different flasks. It is combined to a scroll pump (operating without oil) that allows to freeze-dry small amount of organic solvent without damaging pump itself.
In detail, using this instrument it is possible to:
- freeze-dry only products previously freezing;
- check the condenser temperature (-55 °C);
- freeze-dry in continuous: using tree-accessory it is possible to connect eight different flasks in whose vacuum is separately applied in time.
